Some Papamoa residents have raised concerns about lewd and criminal behaviour taking place on a stretch of beach near Papamoa.

Concerned resident Shaun Gallagher, approached Mayor Stuart Crosby about his concerns saying everyone is allowed freedom of expression but not at the expense of causing offense.

The major concern of residents was the level of nudist behaviour including homosexual activity and excessive parading.

SunLive asked people on the streets what they thought about nudity on public beaches.

MORE IS BETTER

Just go do what ever somewhere else, there is no reason to think that this type of behaviour is at all normal. The only reason for this lot doing this seems to be some sort of effort to make up for an excess of ego repacing deficiencies elsewhere, hence the need for many an observer to have an extra large telephoto lens.

Think again maccachic

Well said Surfwatch. It is people like maccachic who create problems like this by condoning obscene/criminal acts in public. What would the world be like if it was full of people like him/her?

Protect the Kids

Well we may be of the same dimensions, but children should not be exposed to weird adults until they are old enough not to be scarred mentally by the experience. Obviously "Maccachic" you are thinking about yourself only as many of the nudists and weirdos are as well. Which one are you, the nudist, the man with the "excited parts" who just want to exhibit himself to any child or woman, or the two gay guys, carrying on in public. I can take weird gits, but I wouldnt want my grandchildren confronted by such things. I would do anything necessary to protect my grandchildren as many parents and others would to protect their young ones. Paedophiles think they are doing the kids a favour by their abuse. About time we became PC about the right things, and protect the chilren of our country from the things they are not ready to comprehend.

Full nudity in Supermarket acceptable in some cultures? Mate, never heard of that culture!

Exposition

If some of the nudists really comprehended how pathetic they look, maybe they would stay at home! Sad lack of self-esteem.

Perverts

Posted on 29-04-2012 22:23 | By monty111

Nothing wrong with nudist camps when contained to themselves but the problem here is that the perverts outnumber the genuine nudists and are trying to take over the area in question to perform their illegal/disgusting sex acts with one-another.

Law is an ass

Posted on 29-04-2012 19:33 | By Surfwatch

Someone in a long coat walking up to kids and exposing himself in a public place should be prosecuted and I am sure there must be a law against it. Speedos are bad enough, but why go nude. Dont answer that I have heard it all before. You can rationalise anything if you try hard enough. But the crunch will come. If the police dont act vigilantes will. If you want to expose yourself to people who dont want to see you be prepared for the consequences.

Nude nutties

Posted on 29-04-2012 14:59 | By donmac

Normal nudists keep to themselves and certainly don’t parade in public. There are good solid human behaviour reasons for this. Those exhibitionists who persist on showing their bits in public need to remember that obscene exposure is still an offense on the statute books. If I see any of them in the wrong place I will have no hesitation in laying a complaint, with photos with the police.

A sense of humour

Good to see a few people out there, with some pragmatic, simple answers, and all written with a smile. I entirely agree with the 2 previous commentors, the law is what it says, and whats the point, there is kms of beach, if you do not like what happens on 1 little bit, do not go there, and if you live near by, when you knew what happens in front of you, well just leave!!!!, just K.I.S.S

What is Offensive?

Posted on 29-04-2012 13:28 | By bigted

It is wrong for some individual to inflict their personal standards on us all. In some cultures to show more than a few cm of skin is offensive, in others total nudity in the supermarket is acceptable. Don’t we have enough laws telling us what we should or should not do? Furthermore, folk at Papamoa bought their properties knowing full well that there was a nudist beach nearby - now they complain about it?

Where are the legislators

Posted on 29-04-2012 12:24 | By Openknee8ted

There is no law forbidding nudity in a public place. Trying to get prosecutions under other laws such as disorderly behaviour can be problematic. So until Government makes a law restricting or banning nudity in public there is not much anybody can do. We could put a beach cam up to deter them. Unfortunately the nudists would probably enjoy that and probably imitate boy racers and put For Sale Phone 02XXXXX on their backs or fronts, whichever is their best side.
