The restricted fire season in the Western Bay of Plenty is drawing to close with Monday, April 30, being the last day of the season.
Matakana, Rangiwaea and Motiti Island remain in a year round restricted fire season.

Fire fighters battled a one hectare blaze on the hills of Welcome Bay earlier this year.
Principal Rural Fire officer Barry Low says residents are reminded a permit is needed for all open fires on the islands.
He says Mayor Island remains under a total fire ban.
“The Fire Authority wishes to thank rural residents for the cooperation whilst the restricted fire season was in place.
“People carrying out burns over the coming winter months are reminded of their responsibilities in ensuring safe fire management practices are observed.”
