Tomorrow night is the last night of the Baypark Speedway season with a “spectacular” line up of sprint and saloon cars in the Bay of Plenty championships.

The Flamecrusher Midget Invitational this Saturday will feature the best in sprint and saloon cars and the Flamecrusher Top Half Midget Series from 6.30pm at Baypark in Mount Maunganui.

The country’s two top saloon car drivers – Geoff Baron and Brett McClymont – will also be in attendance.

Speedway manager Roger Bailey says the evening will be one to remember.

“There are two highlights this meeting, the midget invitation is one – they’re a real draw card – 30 midgets running round the track is pretty spectacular.

“Midgets are the second fastest class of speedway vehicle that runs on this track.”

Midget-wise, drivers to look out for include 88A Brad Mosen, New Zealand number two Chris McCutcheon, and resident American driver 81A Ricky Logan, says Roger.

Roger says to set the grid on the 30-lap midget feature; the last race of the night, the fastest driver will start at the back, which is an interesting concept.

“You know who your closest rival is and you don’t want them starting up front do you.”

The top qualifier will get to choose who starts beside them and that person will then decide who starts in front of them.

“We’ve run this format in the midget and sprint car class a couple of times this season already.

“It’s an awesome spectacle for the public to see a fast car move through the field after starting at the back of the grid.”

LOOSE as a GOOSE

Wrong wrong wrong Councillor Guy everything financial associated with TCC or its CCOs or its bootlickers is RATEPAYERS DEBT.Smoke and mirrors and creative accounting Bull**** won’t hide that.So you agree that you don’t have a clue what the commercial rate being charged out for hiring Baypark or Tect Arena is so zip up and stop pontificating trying to justify the unjustifiable. The whole exercise is and will continue to be very expensive mistake.

I give up, just as many other have clearly done ...

Posted on 28-04-2012 22:09 | By murray.guy

PLONKER contributes ... Phailed has got it (some of it anyway) example the $5m in clearly is cash from TCC paid over to TCVL/Baypark to prop up the bank account. The simple question Murray is this, Where did TCC get he $5m fom to pay over to the bottomless black hole that is Baypark? Common Muray like to see you dig outa that hole! >>>>>> No need to dig. NO $5m HAS BEEN PAID OVER. I say it again, slowly, NO .... $5m ...... HAS ... BEEN ... PAID ... OVER .... !!! This is under consideration! TCC gave TCVL all of the debt associated with the Baypark acquisition necessary to facilitate the $41m Event Centre construction, the ratepayers having contributed ZIP! An unrealistic business case has TCVL somehow generating cash surpluses to meet the debts incurred by TCC. It is proposed, in effect, to return $5m of that debt, back to those who created it! AS YET, IT HAS NOT HAPPENED! AS YET, NO RATEPAYER IMPACT! No, I am not privy to the actual amounts TCVL charge for the commercial hiring of Baypark and TECT Arena assets.

TCC GOT RIPPED OFF

Posted on 28-04-2012 17:33 | By PLONKER

When it thought of paying money for Baypark, if it was making money it would not have been for sale, so easily stitched, like lambs to the slaugther! Come on Murray where are the "facts" now on this ... WHO FRONTED FOR THE $5M PAID FROM TCC TO TCVL? Oh hmmm well that was a question and an answer right :) Would you be so kind then to confirm that your blog here on 28/4/12 @ 10.09am that says "No speedway impact on rates ... NO additional rates requirement to subsidize speedway activities ..." is completely wrong !!!!!

PLONKERS GOT THIS ONE RIGHT

AndyN, TheCourier & Sandyshirl sorry guys Baypark Speedway ain’t long for this world if the rugby clan has its way so start looking forward to a life at Tect Park or somewhere equally remote.Sure thousands do attend but at the rate of a paltry 2000 per meeting- that’s only 40000 a season which is a pathetic financial outcome for a $12m investment.BAYPARK still does not pay TCC rates.FITH

C'MON COUNCILLOR GUY FESS UP>

Why haven’t you bothered to answer the question I asked on the Home Show blog. You continue to rabbit on about the commercial rates paid for use of TECT ARENA yet you won’t spell out what the weekly rate is-why not? Let the public have an answer on what the Home Show promoter will pay for the weeks use it has of the Arena and for that matter what did TT Netball and Davis Cup Tennis pay ? Only then can it be determined what sort of dog this place is !!

Yesteryear process were suspect at best ..

Posted on 28-04-2012 12:14 | By murray.guy

Yogi, it has always been my publically expressed opinion that yesteryear processes, rating relief and other benefits afforded My Clarkson, were suspect at best. A few are trying to salvage a positive outcome from a somewhat suspect beginning, while a few are constantly attempting to sabotage those efforts and remain stuck in the past. My reference to the paying of commercial rates refers to ’commercial charges’ being paid by commercial events such as Home Shows and the like. I encourage you to focus on the ’real issue’ you have identified, being, what appears to be, the selective application of policy by selected elected members and senior staff.

PAY RATES?

Posted on 28-04-2012 10:47 | By YOGI

Now that is a new one Murray, According to TCC rates records Baypark did not pay rates from 2001 - 2009 and likely more, and as recall that was approved by a purpose written rate remission policy for that single purpose, even then the policy was broken at the first vote, a bite like the Jazz ’Feast’ provided by TCC, the grant of $30,000 and the so called loan of $90,000. All against the rules yet happened anyway! The bar has sunk so low here that it is dissappearing into the mud.

Status Quo

Posted on 28-04-2012 10:11 | By Openknee8ted

Every time TCC say there will be no cost to the rate payer and within months there is X millions required from the rate payer to prop it up. Who votes for these clowns I have no idea.

No speedway impact on rates

Posted on 28-04-2012 10:09 | By murray.guy

There has been, will be, NO additional rates requirement to subsidize speedway activities. The speedway activity, associated infrastructure and resource consent were high-jacked to better enable the development of the Baypark site in to a multi-sports recreational complex valued in excess of $70 million (excluding land). Plonker and others forget that Baypark began life as a ’speedway venue’, and has been evolving ever since, to include a huge variety of recreational and commercial activities (which pay commercial rates).

Track side

Posted on 28-04-2012 01:32 | By David Thomas

Come on B.O.P people get your backside trackside. It will be my 10th time over the Kaimais to Baypark Speedway. You dont know how lucky you are to have such a great facility.

DREAM WORLD REVISITED!

Posted on 27-04-2012 22:38 | By PLONKER

AndyN, if "you" want to pay more rates then i am not going to stop you that is for sure, but don’t add your bills for your indulgences to my rates bill, simple concept really! PHAILED, you have missed a bit on the tab, let be help you understand it all here: Add the $12m at the start, add as you listed $5.5m, then teh losses of about $18m that TCC plans to be the loss (actual is usually HEAPS more of course, budget skills extraordinaire!!!) that adds to a total of about $36m. Please revise you interest amount as that willbe more like $2-3m annually and rising. None you can understand why there is no hope every of the debt ever being paid from the losses at Baypark.

Plonker got it wrong

Posted on 27-04-2012 21:02 | By Sandyshirl

As per the advert - Tomorrow night is the last night of the Baypark Speedway season. Yes, they will be back next year. Nothing is wrong with the script. They also may cost the rate payer but thousands of people enjoy it. Go Baypark. See you next year.

........

Your name says it all, PLONKER

Interested to know the financials

Posted on 27-04-2012 18:41 | By Phailed

If you take the $5 million loan to Baypark and add the cost of buying the Speedway business, then look at the interest on the total I guess you’d be getting close to $500,000 a year in interest alone? It will be interesting to see how Baypark can repay that loan.

Your not quite right

Posted on 27-04-2012 17:09 | By

Baypark speedway will be back in october, "baypark" isnt going anywhere. And as a rate payer that uses this awesome facility i have no problem paying a little extra in my rates

NOT QUITE RIGHT!

Posted on 27-04-2012 16:52 | By PLONKER

In fact baypark will be back next year and that will cost ratepayers another $2 or $3 million next year as well.
