Two trucks have collided on the Matamata side of the Kaimai Ranges on State Highway 29 – near the same place where a truck carrying palm kernels rolled a week ago today.

A logging truck and a signage truck have collided on the highway near its intersection with Raparapa Road just after 10.30am today, forcing the closure of one lane.

Both drivers are reported to be out of their vehicles and uninjured.

Emergency services are at the scene and advise that the road will be reduced to one lane in either direction until further notice.

Motorists are being advised to drive with caution.

On Friday, April 20 a truck and trailer unit carrying palm kernel rolled on the same section of highway closing both lanes of the highway for about an hour.

NZTA Policy

This illustrates the foolishness of the NZTA policy to make the main official route from Tauranga to/from Auckland via Hamilton. SH2 through Waihi desperately deserves more investment - not just lowered speed limits and passing lanes removed.

Irony is ...

One of the trucks involved was a ’traffic hazard truck’, the use of which seems to have reached epidemic proportions these days.

It been dry up on Kaimais for quiet a while. Nek Minnit it rains and make to road very slippery. Add water with oil resdue and try and stop.

Major Problem Here!

As I travel over the Kaimais everyday, I observe the increase of trucks/heavy vehicles using this road in the past 12 months. This road was not built for such traffic and will unfortunately result in more accidents.

What is wrong with the drivers of these trucks.......................I am sure some of them are steerers instead of drivers. other factors may be the cause of these accidents but 3 in a couple of weeks ............

Again?
