Tauranga-based NZ First list MP Brendan Horan is singing praise for a Bill before Parliament.
The Nga Wai o Maniapoto Bill, a treaty settlement Bill for his iwi, Ngati Maniapoto, passed its first and second readings on Thursday night and during debate, Brendan sang.
He sang the national anthem in Maori following a passage from the Treaty of Waitangi being read.
Brendan says the song was in tribute for the hard work that has gone into the creation of this settlement.
“These Bills have taken many, many years to reach this point – it was out of respect for the journey.”
Brendan hopes the settlement Bills will “cast adrift hurt so we can grow as a country together”.
“All New Zealander’s have a vested interest in the settlements being reached so that we can move forward together as one nation.
“Singing the national anthem was about us coming together as one nation and being able to move forward together.”
He says many MPs joined him in singing the national anthem, but not all of them can be seen in the video clip.
“Most of the MPs actually joined in.
“It’s just that you couldn’t hear them because when you’re speaking your mic is the only one on.
“There were people that you couldn’t see on television or on video that were up representing the many people that have gone before them and the many that have passed away.”

I also agree with "SJones1". Until the/a government takes a strong stand and says "enough is enough" the theft of NZers hard earned money will continue. Singing in Parliament is about all Horan will do. Paul Holmes also has it right when he says we should dump Waitangi Day as our national day and change it to ANZAC Day.
