Petrol price wars are continuing in the Bay of Plenty with BP and Z Energy dropping prices marginally.

PriceWatch has listed BP’s petrol price as $2.089, while Z Energy’s price for 91 unleaded is sitting at $2.082.

Caltex has its price for 91 unleaded at $2.049 and Gull is slightly cheaper still at $2.029.

The price of diesel is also being dragged into the battle – BP’s diesel is $1.509 and Z Energy’s is $1.499.

Z Energy communications manager Jonathan Hill says regions around the country are experiencing intense price wars.

“From time to time there are different prices in different regions as the various companies compete with each other on prices in different parts of the country.”

He says since the summer holidays, price competitions have been strong.

Prices are expected to fluctuate is oil prices continue to change.

1 cent isn’t a price war, it’s tinkering and messing with things..... a price war would be 10-20 cents . like this http://www.istockanalyst.com/business/news/5440403/st-louis-price-war-pulls-down-gasoline-costs-statewide. When the government deregulated the petrol industry they said it would create price competition and lower prices....they knew the opposite would in fact be true and it would create higher prices and therefore higher taxes because taxes are always a percentage.
