Salvage Plan

Can this be true – a break in ranks?

Cos if it is, I give huge thanks.

At last it seems the mayor has woke

To see what makes we ‘raters’ choke.

The costs are where we have to look

And staff costs almost fill that book.

The time it takes to read agendas

Beats Guinness Book of real mindbenders.

Old ‘Stormy Stu’ has got my vote

You other guys should please take note.

The ship of state has hit some rocks

And council staff should pull up socks.

It’s to the pumps we need to go

To find the leak and stop the flow.

A starting point is clear to most

The ‘audit plan’ is not a ghost.

The present lot’s a pantomime

The ‘system’ has surely run its time.

A commissioner now springs to mind

But that plan takes too long to wind.

An audit can be done in weeks

It’s guaranteed to fix those leaks.

And payment can be put off too

Until results are clear to you.

To make this work you need to squawk

Tell this lot that, we don’t want talk.

The time has come for them to think

And bail like hell before we sink.

The blame game again. Used to be ’A poor workman blames his tools’. These days it’s blame anyone/thing, as long as it’s "not me". http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/6403692/Local-council-blowouts-hit-200m And this is going to continue, this rape of the ratepayer, as long as current councillors are incumbent.

Sorry voting is not the answer

That is only every 3 years you need to focus this bunch on a daily basis. Good on Christchurch citizens for having a go and the Kapiti people and even the Hamilton lot. Tauranga you are a pack of gutless wonders. You all know what is happening is amoral and wrong get off your butts and do something about it - a petition for the appointment of a Local Govt Commissioner would be a good start. We are a lot worse than CHCH KAPITI AND HAMILTON >!!

Don't blame the Council...

...you elected them. We may not get the politicians we want, but we invariably get the ones we deserve. As long as people sit back and tolerate graft, corruption, nepotism, cover-ups, and sheer incompetence, without speaking out, then the "ship of state" is more like a water-logged kon-tiki. We desperately need two things at the moment: transparency and accountability. If they were in place we would not have seen the Hot Pools destroyed, the wasted money on projects we can’t afford, the mortgaging of our future by over borrowing, and the continuing ever-upward increase in rates which is necessary to support the whole fiasco. I love Tauranga and moving away is not an option, but it makes me very sad to see the levels of incompetence which we are subjected to. There seems to be a very short supply of simple goodwill and common sense, and there are not the checks and balances in place which are needed. Accountability and tranparency. Instead of being a "law unto themselves" CEOs and senior managers of Council funded organizations, along with Councillors themselves, must be made answerable and they must be prepared to show what they did and are doing with OUR money. There probably are some decent honest Councillors who don’t see their service to the Community as a well paid job, but they seem to be overwhelmed by the problems noted above. We need to be more outspoken as a community and make it very clear we have had enough. Don’t just sit back and think: "There’s nothing I can do about it". Make sure you vote. Be prepared to confront your representatives and get explanations for why things are in the state they are. Lower your "tolerance and apathy" level and work for giving this place the kind of administration it deserves. We are not idiots; we deserve better. But we won’t get it unless we DO something.

YOU ARE ON TO IT MATE

That is more like it, little of meaningful business just bury them deep and leave them to it.
