Residents experiencing a ‘putrid smell’ around the town may only have to put up with it for another week as the Tauranga City Council works to fix the problem.
SunLive readers have reported smelling sewage in certain areas, including 15th Avenue behind Tauranga Boys’ College.

Manholes are being blamed for the smell of sewage polluting the air.
Charmaine Buchanan first noticed the smell when she dropped her son Jordan off for his first day of college at the beginning of last week.
She says the smell was horrible.
“It smelt like sewage. I wasn’t sure where it was coming from.
“There has been road works in the area, so I thought contractors may have busted a sewer pipe of something.”
Tauranga City Council communications advisor Marcel Currin says the problem is with some of the new manhole lids which were installed as part of the Southern Pipeline project.
“They’re not sealing quite as well as they should,” says Marcel.
“The fix is apparently pretty simple; a test fix has been done on the main culprit and assuming that works, the rest will be done next week.”
