A 16-year-old was taken to Tauranga Hospital after he was injured during a crash at Baypark Speedway last night. The teenager from Waihi was involved in a crash just after 9pm on Saturday, February 4.
St John Ambulance was called to the speedway in Mount Maunganui at 9.30pm. An ambulance spokesperson says the teen was involved in a crash at the speedway and taken to hospital in a stable condition. “He wasn’t knocked out in the crash, but afterwards he was complaining of a sore neck.” Comments

What are we thinking? these kids should be at home safe and sound with their parents at this time of the night. Lets face it 9.30pm is pretty late, crickey he probably has school on Tuesday too.

A very restricted class of race vehicle for 12-16 year olds, often refereed to as a learner class. Powered by on a 1200cc Datsun sunny type motor or similar. Statistically skateboarding would more dangerous. Speedway takes a very cautious approach to health and safety. A crash is a term to define almost any incident.
