This morning is the second day of racing in the James Moore Memorial Race, which will see paddlers tackle the waves off Mount Maunganui Main Beach from 10am.

Today, paddlers will participate in a 20km beach-based relay featuring beach sprints before departing from Shark Alley, next to Leisure Island, and paddling around Rabbit Island and back.

The idea of the second race is to make people aware of the memorial seat in James’ honour erected opposite Rabbit Island.

On Saturday about 100 entrants paddled from Maketu to Pilot Bay in memory of James Bhutty Moore, who was lost at sea while paddling from Maketu to the Mount in 2008.
