Inspector Kevin Taylor is taking on the role of Western Bay of Plenty Police acting area commander as Inspector Mike Clement heads to a new post in Auckland.

Kevin took over the role this week and will hold the position until a permanent appointment is made.

Inspector Kevin Taylor is in charge of policing in the Western Bay of Plenty until a permanent area commander is appointed.

Bay of Plenty Police communications manager Jacky James says Kevin is currently the Bay of Plenty Police District human resources manager.

“There is a process that needs to be completed and we don’t have a timeframe for that.

“Kevin was based at Bay of Plenty District Headquarters in Rotorua until taking up the acting appointment.

“He’s been in the BOP District for many years – he has previously acted as the Eastern Bay of Plenty area commander as well.”

He is an experienced police officer and has worked on the police’s frontline in the Western Bay of Plenty, including at Te Puke.

“He’s done a lot of work in the Western Bay, as well as being the district human resources manager for a number of years.”

Applications for the area commander’s role closed a short time ago and the shortlisting process is underway.
