New role for Commodore

Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

Cliff Edge’s Australian cousin, Overdi, is covering the meeting of trans-Tasman leaders and reports they have agreed a new strategy to improve relations with their Pacific counterpart in Fiji.

In a surprising move they have unanimously decided to appoint Commodore Frank Bainimarama as head of television news content and have given him wide ranging powers of enforcement.

Summary execution of newsreaders has been removed from proposed legislation and has been replaced by a new policy of rewarding positive comment in a meaningful manner.

Any news item that is not directly intended to undermine the reputation of either Prime Minister will now earn the newsreader one pack of Hellers standard sausages.

Anything that can be possibly construed as supportive of government policy will result in a used container of tasty chicken pies.

In the event of a more glowing reference to anything the ministers do, a knighthood and a year’s supply of Nappisan will be up for grabs.

What's in a name?

"Commodore" - that’s an early sort of home computer, right? "Bainimarama" - that’s a relatively large dog with a smooth coat, init? So, that proves conclusively that the above story is NOT a modern day, computerised, shaggy dog story. Q.E.D.
