The Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s ‘cautionary area’ imposition in the region’s waters owing to floating debris from the Rena is lifted.
The council imposed the area as a warning to boaties about the high risk of collision with floating containers or debris.

The exclusion zone remains in place around the Astrolabe Reef.
The council is satisfied most of the containers and debris have washed up on beaches now and so it can end its ‘cautionary area’ zoning.
The council continues to advise boaties to keep a good lookout.
The boating exclusion zone of three nautical miles around the Astrolabe Reef remains in place until further notice.
The council says the exclusion zone is to ensure salvors can work safely on the Rena without being hampered by other vessels.
Anyone found in the exclusion zone without the express permission of the harbourmaster may be fined $200 or prosecuted.
