The storm due to occur in the Bay of Plenty at the weekend could see the Rena break up into two pieces, with its ‘rear’ possibly going to ‘fall off’.

Maritime New Zealand has charge of the situation and since the 236m container ship’s claiming of a spot on the Astrolabe Reef has handled media information requests about it.

Finding out information from Maritime New Zealand and politicians is often a difficult task as their agendas come in to play as to what they will or will not say.

In a prophetic work, Fred Dagg offered some early foresight into the Rena situation and this can be viewed here now.
