Tragic news for children worldwide struck today as Santa was downed in an accident over eastern USA. Father Christmas was apparently taking an unscheduled practice flight prior to his big trip, and had failed to alert US Air Traffic Control.

A USAF Lockheed F-105 was involved in a rear end shunt with the sleigh after Santa performed a brake check, stopping more quickly than the following pilot expected. The sleigh was impaled on the front nosecone, while Rudolph was sucked into the left engine air intake, prompting cries of “Oh Deer” from stunned but allegedly witty passers-by.

Santa’s own investigation unit, the North Pole Elf & Safety Team, is helping the US Air Safety Administration
