The Electoral Commission is urging Maketu residents to ensure they are enrolled as there is to be a Western Bay of Plenty District Council by-election on February 10.

“A by-election for the Maketu Community Board takes place in just 10 weeks time,” says registrar of electors Lesley Christophers.

“All eligible people will need to enrol or update their enrolment details by December 22 to vote in the by-election.

“Have you moved house or changed your name or other details? Then you will need to update your enrolment details to make sure these are correct.”

People enrolled on the general and Maori electoral rolls are eligible to vote in the by-election. The by-election will be held by postal ballot.

“Only those people who are correctly enrolled will receive voting papers in the mail and be able to have a say in the election.

“This makes it very important for newly eligible electors to enrol as soon as possible and for those already enrolled to check that their enrolment details are up to date.

“Enrolling is quick and easy.”

Enrolment forms are available by phoning 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56), by free texting your name and address to 3676, from any Post Shop, or by requesting or downloading one from www.elections.org.nz
