Schools from all around the Bay of Plenty were represented in the 2011 Kids Grinder held at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic on Sunday.

The 2km course comprised two massive bouncy castle slides, cargo nets, a sack race and loads of obstacles.

“With over 100 entrants accompanied by their parents and supporters, spirits were high at the starting line,” says Polytechnic Aquatic Centre manager Keith Martin.

The warm weather meant that the free swim at the end of race was highly anticipated by most children and the pool was jam-packed at the end of the race with children and parents alike.

Selwyn Ridge Primary School won the prize for highest number of entrants from a school.

First prize for the girls was won by Shyla Moorfield from Selwyn Ridge and Connor Gibney from Fairhaven School came in first place for the boys.

“This event has provided us with a great opportunity to showcase our gym and pool facilities, as well as letting our hair down and having fun with local kids,” says Keith. Now in its third year, the Kids Grinder looks set to be an annual event that families from around the region can look forward to.
