The Show Me Shorts film festival is screening in Tauranga for the second time in the festival’s six years of running.

Festival director Gina Dellabarca is pleased to be hosting the festival in the Bay of Plenty, as she grew up in Waihi and has a parent living in Papamoa.

The festival will showcase films from national and international producers, including short films from Tammy Davis who played Munter on Outrageous Fortune.

“His films were screened at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and ‘Blue’ was screened at the Cannes festival this year, and is about an out of work children’s television mascot.”

Gina says they have received hundreds of entries, and have carefully chosen the best and most entertaining short films, with the highest production values.

“We group the films into sessions that have a common theme like ‘Unexpected Adventure’ and ‘Hitting the Road’. When you go to see a session of our festival you’ll see about seven short films that are mostly about 10 minutes long each.”

Gina says short films are becoming more and more popular with the rise of Youtube, and she believes local people will love getting a taste of what interesting creative films are being made here in New Zealand and abroad.

“As festival director I am in charge of watching every single film, and selecting the ones for our programme. I love Tauranga and the Mount, and am super excited to be bringing my project home for people to see what I have been up to.”

Show Me Shorts plays at Bay City Cinemas from November 17-27 from 1.30pm to 6.30pm.
