More than 30 homes in Tauranga have woken without power this morning.

Powerco.co.nz reports 31 homes in Gate Pa are affected by the power outage.

The cause of the outage is unknown and a site investigation is underway.

Contractors have indicated power can expect to be restored by 10am.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says traffic lights in the Gate Pa area have also been affected by the outage and are not working.

The outage follows on the back of large scale power outage yesterday which affected more than 800 homes and properties in the Otumoetai area.

Supply was restored to properties in Tauranga's Otumoetai suburb around 12.30pm which was caused by the limb of a tree falling across lines.

A spokesperson for Powerco could not confirm if the outages were linked to last week's storm.

Why all the power cuts in and around Tauranga? Customers should be compensated for failure to provide a service. Not even an apology!

...simple.really could take a deep breath and acknowledge the work that the repair crews are doing in this heat, wearing their safety gear and cooking in overalls while many of us can strip off and enjoy the sea, a pool or the shade. Perhaps he/she might accept that these outages are likely consequences of the storm in some way. Ever been without power for 10 days after a south island snow storm?
