Motorists hoping for a quick trip home will be sadly disappointed with reports of heavy traffic volumes on Western Bay of Plenty highways.

Delays are being reported on Cameron Road, Hewletts Road and Maunganui Road in Tauranga.

Out of the city, the NZTA says delays are expected on State Highway 2, northbound through Katikati due to holiday traffic.

“We expect traffic through this area to be heavy, so please be patient and allow extra time.”

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says he is stuck in traffic and it's bumper to bumper.
