Tauranga city mayor Greg Brownless is expecting a quiet Christmas after what he says has been a busy year at council.

He says he'll be spending it with partner Li-Jong Liao and her son, who is a student in Wellington.

'He is coming back up for a few weeks so it will be just us three. I don't even think we'll sleep in, we'll probably get outside and hopefully get to enjoy some sunshine.”

He wants to remind locals and visitors to keep safe this Christmas.

'Have a great time with family, if possible, get outdoors and get some exercise in to burn off all that food you'll be consuming on Christmas Day.

'Leave your computers at home and your cellphones too, keep safe and don't do anything stupid, but enjoy yourselves at the same time.”
