Power is out to 958 homes in Welcome Bay tonight.
Powerco reports power went out at 8.56pm and is expected back on sometime around 2am.
The cause of the outage is not stated on the power company's website, but a SunLive reader emailed in to says: "Power is out in some parts of Welcome Bay.
"We had surges and then back on. Saw sparks flying from Kaitemako Rd area - apparently a substation there."
