Injured woman airlifted to hospital

A woman had to be extricated from a vehicle after it crash down a bank.

Emergency services were called to the crash near Whanagamata around 9.30am on Sunday.

The Hamilton-based Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to airlift the injured the 22-year-old to hospital.

'The vehicle the woman had been travelling in crashed down an embankment between Whiritoa and Whangamata,” says a spokesperson for the rescue chopper.

'The woman was extracted by NZ Fire Rescue and transported to the Whangamata helipad by road ambulance.

'The woman was airlifted to Waikato Hospital with abdominal injuries.”
