A woman has been located after disappearing near the Blue Lake area in Rotorua last night.

The woman, a British tourist in her 50s, went for a run at around 8.30pm yesterday but failed to return.

A LandSAR team found the woman, on a track south of the Blue Lake shortly before 1pm.

"It appears she took a wrong turn on what was supposed to be a short run, and got lost," says a police media spokesperson.

"She is a bit shaken by the experience, but is otherwise ok."

Police are now reuniting the woman with her husband.

Police would like to thank the LandSAR volunteers who have taken part in the search for their time.

Is SH2, between Katikati and Tauranga, a dangerous stretch of road?

Yes, there are too many cars on it and it’s not designed to handle that sort of traffic volume.
No, people just need to slow down and pay attention to their driving.
