The pilot of a light aircraft that crashed near Downard Road, White Pine Bush in the Eastern Bay of Plenty today, escaped without life threatening injuries.
Fire Service Northern Communications shift commander Steve Smith says the pilot is out of the wreck.
“He’s out, there are injuries, but they don’t appear to be life threatening and he is being treated by ambulance there,” says Steve.
“I can’t even tell you if he has gone to hospital, I don’t know.”
Fire engines from Edgecumbe and Whakatane were not needed and have been sent back to their stations, says Steve.
The light aircraft crashed about 10.20am, and was at first reported to be an agricultural aircraft.
“We got told it was a top dressing plane, but it appears that was incorrect.”
