Reports are coming in of a truck blocking Waihi Road in Tauranga this morning.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a truck and trailer unit is blocking at least three quarters of the road.

The caller says police are at the scene with the truck.

Another SunLive reader says it smells like a burnt clutch.

"He [the truck] isnt moving anywhere in a hurry."

Motorists are being warned to expect delays on Waihi Road, says a police spokesperson.

"Both lane of the road is blocked near Paine Street. A heavy vehicle tow truck has been called and is on its way.

"Police would like to thank motorists for their patience and are asking people to avoid the area if possible for the next 30 minutes."
