What's On: Christmas Parades

Well its December, no turning back now, the man in red will be here before we know it.

With weather in the Bay expected to reach a high of 21 degrees, what better way to enjoy the weekend than some Christmas festivities.

Today there will be plenty of Christmas cheer with three parades on today, the Trustpower Christmas Parade, Seeka Te Puke Float Parade and Lions Club Katikati Christmas Parade.

The annual Trustpower Christmas Parade, at 11am, will see downtown Tauranga come alive in celebration of the start of the Christmas season.

Expected to be another success, the parade will have tones of activities including family entertainment, bands, marching teams, acrobatic groups, fairy tale characters, vintage vehicles and colourful community floats.

Santa will join in the celebration with his new float with his most trusted reindeer at the end of the parade, and he has invited many of his friends to join him, so watch out for Batman, the Joker, Elsa, Alice and The Mad Hatter, Cinderella, Belle and many more.

There will also be giveaways during the parade and you can join Santa and all the characters on the waterfront after the parade.

The parade runs from Devonport Road on 2nd Avenue down to the Harrington Street intersection on The Strand.

The Little Entertainment Company will be on the waterfront at the conclusion of the parade with rides and bouncy castles, shaved ice and other treats until 2pm.

The Seeka Te Puke Float Parade is going to be huge today as well, and this year the parade will be 'car' theme.

In 1967, 50 years ago Te Puke born Denny Hulme won the Formula One World Championship.

Te Puke are celebrating his life and achievements this year with the theme of their Christmas parade dedicated to him.

Prizegiving will be outside the post office at 1.30pm and the parade also includes a Multicultural Food Festival with food and fundraising from local community groups.

The Lions Club of Katikati is holding the Katikati Christmas Parade along the Main Street starting from Earl Drive at 3pm, with Santa arriving in a traditional reindeer-led sleigh.

The parade will be followed by ‘Santa in the Park' at Moore Park at the conclusion of the parade, featuring entertainment, bouncy castles and games for the kids as well as food and quick fire raffles until 6pm.
