Cloudy water safe to drink says council

The cloudiness is caused by trapped air bubbles, which sometimes happens repairs are made on water mains.

Tauranga residents who may have spotted their water looking a little cloudy this morning are being advised by city council, there is nothing to worry about.

Tauranga City Council communications advisor Rachel Shicker says residents in Brookfield, Matua and Otumoetai are most likely to notice cloudy water.

'The cloudiness is caused by trapped air bubbles, which sometimes happens after we repair water mains.

'The water is perfectly safe to drink and we're working to get the air out of the system.

'The trapped air is associated with the supply from our Cambridge Road reservoirs.”

To check if the water is cloudy due to air, just fill a glass with cold water and allow it to stand for a couple of minutes. The air bubbles should disappear and clear from the bottom of the glass upwards, she says.

'We can't say exactly when the cloudiness will disappear, but it will naturally dissipate as the water works its way through the system.”

The Council must be drinking it themselves because it has been like this in the Bellvue area for the last 3-4 days. Not just one ! It does clear though when you let it stand for awhile.
