The Trustpower TECT rescue helicopter was dispatched to Taneatua at 2pm on Saturday, where a woman had been injured during a horse riding event.

The 53-year-old's horse had reared up on a steep hill, causing the rider to fall, after which the horse also fell on her.

The woman suffered a fracture to her lower right leg.

Due to the terrain, the woman was hover loaded into the rescue helicopter, then flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment.
