Pony lovers will be trotting away their worries at the Tauranga RDA annual ribbon day.

The riders will be competing in handy pony, egg and spoon races, hoop over poles race and best rider, as well as champion classes.

There will be a bouncy castle to keep the kids entertained, as well as a sausage sizzle and refreshments courtesy of our sponsor Page Earthworks.

'It's a fantastic opportunity for these riders to showcase their riding skills to their family and friends, and feel a level of achievement in doing so,” says Tauranga RDA Manager Elisha Olds.

She says the RDA has seen a lot of growth over the past year, currently catering for 133 riders per week this term as well as introducing a new programme EAGALA, Equine Assisted growth and learning into their schedule.

'With a growing waiting list we have to look at what more we can do so every person on that waiting list has the opportunity to participate in one of our programmes.

'Plans for the facility next year will allow us to cater for many more riders.”

Tauranga RDA provides interaction with horses to develop increased ability, independence and self-worth for children and adults with physical, intellectual, emotional and social challenges.

The Ribbon Day event is on today at the Tauranga RDA Equestrian Therapy Centre at 44 Ngapeke Road, Tauranga.
