A woman was flown to Rotorua Hospital last night after suffering a serious medical emergency in an Eastern Bay of Plenty township.

The Rotorua BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched around 7pm to a rural area of Galatea, about 50km southeast of Rotorua, after a 36-year-old woman fell ill.

'The rescue helicopter was able to land in a paddock right next to the woman's house,” says a spokesperson.

'The 36-year-old was stabilised by paramedics before being airlifted on a rapid response flight to Rotorua Hospital for treatment.”
