Garden & Art Festival calls for artists

Keen for your artistic flair to add to the creative flavour of the next BOP Garden & Art Festival?

If so, it's time to make contact. The festival team is not only out checking prospective gardens, but is also calling for a show of interest from artists, from the Western Bay of Plenty and beyond.

Festival director Marc Anderson says the festival provides artists with the ideal opportunity to exhibit and a high number of art stops will be part of the festival journey. Festival goers will get to see artists exhibiting in outdoor green galleries, and in some cases, in their private studios.

One of those who thoroughly enjoyed being involved in last year's festival is Tauranga's Emma Prill, whose original art and quality prints have been shown in art exhibitions both in New Zealand and internationally.

Emma exhibited a collection of her limited edition giclée prints at the festival hub during the last festival. (She was also an exhibitor in the festival's early days.)

'I chose to be in the festival because I felt my flower garden works have an obvious theme connection to the festival. I enjoyed being part of a festival that celebrates the beauty of nature and gardens.”

She says her work, using acrylic on canvas, references the long and ever-changing relationship we have with the natural world, flowers, and our gardens.

Emma says she enjoyed the festival atmosphere and it led to sales during the festival, and afterwards, from those who viewed her work during the event.

'It was a really good way of promoting my work and exhibiting in a different context,” she says.

The 2018 festival will be held from Thursday November 15 to Sunday November 18.
