Two businesses and two individuals from the Bay of Plenty have made the finals in a national competition, the 2017 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards.

Bayfair Shopping Centre, and HR Cement have made the finals along with Toi Ohomai lecturer Dr Ian McLean and Excelso Coffee general manager Josie Evans who are individual finalists in the sustainability superstar awards.

'We want to highlight the great success of Bay businesses over the past year,” says SBN regional manager Glen Crowther.

'There are five finalists from the region that have made our national awards, plus many other businesses that had strong entries but missed out to a record number of entries from around NZ.”

The Sustainable Business Network (SBN) is celebrating the successes with an evening of celebration and fun, with MC Ben Hurley and a range of speakers, including Tauranga Mayor Greg Brownless.

There will be a special dinner menu prepared by one of NZ's elite chefs, Nigel Reid. His tapas-style dinner will reflect the event's sustainability theme.

'Another highlight of the event this year is that we will be celebrating SBN's 15th birthday,” says Glen. 'What's more, three BOP based members are among the 23 nationwide that have remained members since our organisation was formed in 2002. These are BOP Regional Council, Comvita and Zest Consulting.

'In a way, these three perfectly capture our diverse membership. One is a large corporate, another a council, and the third a small business. SBN caters for all types and sizes of business, and we work together to help make NZ a more sustainable nation.”

A broad range of businesses and individuals have registered for the event already. It is open to anyone, but attendees need to register and pay via Eventbrite.

The event will be hosted at Tauranga Art Gallery, Friday October 27, 6pm-10pm
