ND hits the ground running

Head coach, James Pamment says he is pleased with the preparation the team put in during spring camp, despite rough weather disrupting things.

The Northern Districts' skipper Daniel Flynn is staring down the barrel of 7,000 first class runs when his team opens its new Plunket Shield campaign against Central Districts at Bay Oval this morning.

Flynn says he is looking forward to getting back into cricket having missed most of last season with a debilitating right hip injury. Both he and the team are ready for their first challenge.

'Everyone generally feels their way into the first game of the new season, but we are looking to hit the ground running with the prep we have put in.”

'We're in good shape which is great at this time of year and the progression into skills has been good. We have been fortunate to get some sun on our backs and onto grass surfaces over the recent weeks of training which certainly helps as well.”

Brent Arnel, who's already played 56 first class games for Northern Districts, will step out again for ND today after four seasons with Wellington.

BJ Watling will keep wickets with Tim Seifert as a specialist batsman. Daryl Mitchell and Henry Cooper were not considered due to shoulder and hamstring injuries.

The full Northern Districts squad to play Central Districts Stags today is Daniel Flynn (Captain), Brent Arnel, James Baker, Dean Brownlie, Anton Devcich, Zak Gibson, Scott Kuggeleijn, Bharat Popli, Brett Randell, Tim Seifert, Josef Walker and BJ Watling.

Two other players are looking at milestones.Bharat Popli on 1964 first class runs and BJ Watling on 7905 first class runs.

It is expected that today's weather may delay the start.
