A section of State Highway 2 is partially blocked after a car crashed into rock fall this afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 2.45pm in the Karangahake Gorge, between Waihi and Paeroa.
A police spokesperson says it is the eastbound lane that is affected, with traffic building up in the area.
She did not believe the motorist involved in the crash had been hurt.

It's a nice drive through here it's just pity the council doesn't seem to care about looking after it with pallet bases which have been on the side for a couple of months, also rocks right on the edge of the road, and water that could be easily drained away so come on council clean it up.
NZTA is the problem.

Ness, the road is a State Highway and is owned by NZTA not the Hauraki District Council. Their policy is one of clean up after the incident and not of fix it to prevent any further problems. They have a bin in their offices that's called "the too hard basket" and that is where that kind of policy ends up. They'd rather spend the money building fancy roundabouts where they're not needed.
