This day in NZ history in 1975 the Waitangi Tribunal was created. Matiu Rata set up the tribunal while Minister of Maori Affairs.

The Tribunal was created to report on and suggest settlements for contemporary Māori claims to the government, and to ensure that future legislation was consistent with the treaty.

The Tribunal has made a major contribution to remedying some of the more unsettling aspects of New Zealand's colonial legacy.

Our quote for today is from George B. Bradt who said "Leadership is about inspiring and enabling others to do their absolute best together to realize a meaningful and rewarding shared purpose."
