Waihi's popular GO Waihi Trolley Derby is back again on Saturday October 7, right in the middle of the school holidays.

GO Waihi coordinator Brian Gentil says entries are already coming in for the event.

'It's always a great day for both entrants and spectators, who can get right up next to the course through the centre of town, starting at the top of the aptly named Haszard Street.”

Free to enter, with categories for boys, girls, men and women, there's a $300 cash prize for one lucky entrant at the prize giving, along with lots of other prizes just for entering.

'Waihi Lions and Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club do a fantastic job making sure everyone gets as many runs as possible. And having an open class gives people the chance to think outside the square and build a trolley that's a bit different,” says Brian.

'There's also the annual challenge between all the emergency services, which is always hotly contested.”

Leading up the start at midday is the Goldfest Market Day from 9am, with music downtown, plenty of sales and specials through lots of shops, food and refreshments for everyone, and a great mix of stalls selling all sorts of goodies to add to the flavour.

There's still plenty of time to design, build or buy a trolley or even dust off the old one and give it a new lease of life.

Entry forms for the Trolley Derby and application forms for Market Day stalls are at Hauraki District Council's Service Centre and Library in Rosemont Road, Waihi, online at www.waihi.org.nz or by emailing GO Waihi at info@waihi.org.nz.
