A 17-year-old Tauranga Boys' College student is ready to take the leap to show his support for cancer research.

Hunter Williams is raising money for Jump for Cancer 2017, a fundraiser which is being run to help raise money for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Cancer Societies.

Participants are given a target of $800, and if they reach it are rewarded with a 12,000ft skydive in Taupo on November 5. If they reach $1000 they are given a 15,000ft skydive.

Hunter says his inspiration to be a part of the fundraiser came about due to the loss of his Poppa, who passed away on December 25, 2007.

'It's coming up to ten years this year and the Tauranga Cancer Society branch were with us through those times and before he passed away.

'I want to repay them, so this is my chance. A small thank you, for making a difference.

'I thought this was something new, something I've never done before and the only other fundraising I've ever been involved in is the 40 hour famine,” he says.

Hunter says he has already reached $1075 and hopes to raise more before the fundraiser comes to a close at the end of November.

'My starter goal was $800, and now it is $1500.”

'This money is going to help both patients with cancer and their family and friends.”
