Pyes Pa crash causes delay

UPDATED 12PM: The road has now been cleared at Pyes Pa Road, also known as SH36, after a crash involving a truck and a car.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the accident occurred at 11.10am on the stretch between Keenan Road and Merrick Road.

'There were no injuries. Both lanes were blocked so there was a significant build-up of traffic.”

Equipment was brought in to remove a light truck that was obstructing the lane.

The area is now clear and traffic is flowing freely, says Ian.

EARLIER:

Emergency services are at the scene of a two vehicle crash which is blocking both lanes of Pyes Pa Road.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a light truck and car have crashed on the highway, between Tauranga and Rotorua.

No one is reported to have been seriously injured in the crash.

"The crash happened on the stretch between Keenan Road and Merrick Road, and there were no injuries," says police.

"The road will be closed for around an hour while equipment is brought in to remove the vehicles."

Motorists are being asked to avoid using the route until further notice as there are no diversions around the area.

People are advised to use the route through Te Puke as the crash is located just past the cemetery.
