Six crashes around Tauranga in a 24 hour period were all avoidable, says Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.

Only minor injuries have been reported.

They start with a three car nose-to-tail in Hewletts Road at 8.17am on Wednesday.

At 2.45pm, there was two car crash at Welcome Bay Road and Esmeralda Street, caused by one of the vehicles failing to give way.

At 3.04pm, a car rolled several times on Wilson Road North, between SH2 and Maketu. The sole occupant was taken to Tauranga Hospital with what police believe are minor injuries.

Two cars collided in the city at 4.42pm at the Chapel Street/Takitimu Drive off-ramp, causing peak hour delays.

'Minor injury to one of the drivers and early indications are that one vehicles has failed to comply with a red traffic signal,” says Ian.

Alcohol is believed to be the reason why a driver crashed his car into a rock wall on Otumoetai Road, Judea, at 8.14pm.

At 5.59am on SH29/Barkes Corner today there was a two car collision at Barkes Corner. There were minor injuries but no other information is yet available.

'We say it all the time,” says Ian. 'All of these are avoidable if you are paying attention or taking care.”

They will all be back behind the wheel in another car by now.... So, look out! I think people who have more than one accident in a period of time, should have their license suspended for a week first (second) event.... if they have another accident within a period of time from their last accident, suspend for 2 weeks... then 3 then 4 and so on.... so that they get the message having an accident is more than just the inconvenience of getting a taxi home to get the other car. I also mean BOTH or all parties in an accident. A driver is tasked with NOT causing an accident and ALSO actively AVOIDING accidents. If more drivers would pay attention and avoid accidents because they know even if someone else actually caused the crash, this would be a good thing imo....
