Eight golds for Bay building companies

Venture Developments won a Gold Award and was Category winner in the Volume/Group Housing New Home up to $450,000 category with this four-bedroom brick and cedar clad home in Tauranga.

A number of building companies in the Western Bay of Plenty have been recognised this month for their entries in the Bay of Plenty/Central Plateau Registered Master Builders 2017 House of the Year competition.

This year's Supreme Award went to Rotorua builders Urbo Homes for a luxury home on the shores of Lake Tarawera, but there were eight Gold Award winners, eight Silver Award winners and one Category winner in the Western Bay.

Calley Homes in Katikati won three Gold Awards, one in the New Home $1-2 million category for a Katikati home inspired by California's mid-century modern architecture movement; one in the New Home $700,000-$1 million category with a classic weatherboard Tauranga home featuring three lounges; and one in the New Home $450,000-550,000 category for a semi-rural Tauranga home with an elegant country theme.

Belco Homes won two Gold Awards, one in the New Home $1-2 million category for a cedar and clay brick home with oak floors and custom copper wall linings overlooking the harbour; and another in the New Home $550,000-750,000 category for an Omokoroa home featuring a sound-proofed media room.

Todd Grey Builders won a Gold Award and was Category winner for its entry in the New Home $700,000-$1 million category. The sprawling single-level home in Ohauiti features a pavilion-style, open-plan living area book-ended by two sleeping wings and 10 tonnes of Indonesian marble floor tiles purchased by the owners 10 years ago.

Harwood Homes NZ also won a Gold Award in the New Home $700,000-$1 million category with a Papamoa abode merging bach and barn influences and a Silver Award in the New Home $450,000-550,000 category.

Silver Awards also went to Jennian Homes BOP (two), Construction Solutions 2008, Landmark Homes BOP, Design Builders Tauranga, Coast NZ Construction and Fowler Homes.

The Gold Award winners will now be judged against other Gold Award winners from around New Zealand to find the National Gold Reserve finalists.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner on November 25 at SKYCITY in Auckland.
