It's been ten days since two men went missing in the Tongariro National Park and police say the search for them is entering a new phase.

The men fled into the Kaimanawa Forest after a police pursuit last Saturday and discarded clothing was found on Monday.

Iwi Ngati Tuwharetoa led a karakia and placed a rahui at the search site on Monday.

Hundreds of volunteers, specialist search teams, and the police dive squad have been searching for the men.

Police said information gathered during the search would be re-assessed.

They said they were in close contact with the family of the men and they remained determined to bring them home.

We are very fortunate to have a police force who consistently show respect, are not judgemental, and stay focused on a missing persons search regardless of who it is. I think the appropriate word is "professionalism" I can think of a few other countries where you would not find that.
