Western Bay of Plenty District Council is holding a meeting for the Te Puke community to share the results of two town centre surveys.

The meeting will take place in the Memorial Hall Settlers Room in Te Puke on Tuesday, August 29 from 5.45-7.45pm and will be chaired by Mayor Garry Webber.

Key Research, who completed a survey canvassing locals' thoughts about the upgrade, will provide an overview of the survey findings.

Te Puke retailer Murray Holyoake, representing Te Puke Business Strategies, undertook an independent survey and will also present these findings.

Garry says the meeting is a chance to discuss the survey findings and listen to Te Puke residents about where to from here for any further improvements.

The upgrade involved the single laning of Jellicoe Street through the town centre to create a safer environment for shoppers and pedestrians, installing more pedestrian crossings, upgrading footpaths, improving traffic site-lines for pedestrians', and extensive beautification landscaping work.

These works also reduced the number of parking spaces in the main street.

'We want to present a before and after picture, as well as the survey results, and have a discussion about what people do and don't think works and any suggestions as a way forward for the Te Puke Community,” says Garry.

The Council have not listened to the Te Puke community, local areas or the store owners. The Town is now a dogs breakfast and is financially crippling the centre, many will not continue to survive. I live in Pukehina and I used to shop there 2-3 times per week. I now absolutely avoid it unless absolutely necessary.
