Two men have been rescued after their yacht began to sink while travelling from Auckland to Tauranga.
The Auckland Coastguard responded to a distress call at around 6.30pm on Friday night.
Lion Foundation Rescue was dispatched from Auckland, arriving at the scene near Port Jackson, Coromandel, at around 7.42pm
Coastguard northern region duty officer Melissa Ousey says the occupants of 8.3 metre yacht noticed water coming in under the floorboards.
'There was a crack in the hull, and their motor was also not functioning.”
She says the coastguard successfully stopped the water ingress, before towing the vessel back to Westhaven Marina in Auckland.
Neither of the men were injured or required medical treatment.

...a significant contribution to the Coastguard. Would YOU put to sea in a boat with a cracked hull and expect other people to put their lives on the line because you don't know how to make a running repair? Everybody makes mistakes and I'm not judging them, but I hope this experience has caused them to think about the services we all take for granted.

Maybe they should have borrowed your crystal ball because I missed the bit where it says they put to sea knowing they had a cracked hull.
