Teens steal coffee grinder

Six teenagers stole a coffee grinder and equipment from Pronto Burgers and Cafe on Marine Parade, Mount Maunganui.

Four males and two females around the ages of 16 and 17 stole a coffee grinder and other items that have not yet been identified from Pronto on Wednesday, July 20, at 10pm.

The owner Fee Brando says their manager came to work the next morning and noticed straight away that their coffee grinder was missing and immediately checked the security cameras.

Fee says she thinks that they weren't intending to get into Pronto specifically, they were just trying to break into any store as a dare.

'What we can tell from the footage that we did see, is that it wasn't about taking anything in particular, it was young kids daring them to do it.”

'There was one girl at the back filming while they walked into the Oceanside foyer and they couldn't get that door open, so they tried Pronto's door.”

They are still in the process of figuring out what else the teenagers stole, as one of them had items hidden under their jumper.

'We are lucky that our coffee rep was in the area and had a spare coffee grinder in his car. Otherwise it would have been pretty hard, as we have just been closed for two weeks renovating.”

She says she has noticed an increase in the amount of thefts in the region lately and just wants her equipment back.

If you have seen or have any information that will help police track the stolen items or people responsible, call Tauranga police on 07 577 4300 or 0800 555 111.

Under the recently announced Green party principles announced by Metiria Turei it is perfectly acceptable to thieve off others provided it is to look after your family. These people look like Green party supporters so please stop harassing them.

I guess they needed a coffee?

When they get caught, they should definitely be 'ground'-ed? Or even strung up by the beans? In all seriousness tho, where do their parents think these 'children' (yes, under 18 is a child) are at 10pm? Just think, if one of these hoodlums goes missing or gets abducted wandering the streets at night, they will naturally be portrayed as little angels who were good at school and never hurt a fly... I bet the kids are proud of themselves...

So, is it true that Pronto's door was left unlocked? Or was it still open at the time? If it was not open but the door unlocked, that would be a bit of a security issue?

It's no wonder..

the police don't bother with burglaries anymore, no point when the courts turn around and basically let the perps off every time. This will be no different, another sob story about a tough upbringing as an excuse. So sick of life in NZ now to be honest..not the great country it used to be.
