The Tauranga Maori Business Association is hosting a Maori business networking event tonight, with Minister for Maori Development Te Ururoa Flavell as a special guest.

Ao Pakihi – ‘Dawn of a New Business' is taking place at Bay of Plenty Regional Council's office in First Ave, Tauranga, from 5.30pm.

The event's purpose is to bring association members together to network and receive updates from the minister regarding the state of the Maori economy, policy and legislative changes afoot.

In particular, members are keen to hear what the Maori SME sector should expect from the Maori Party if they are part of the government following September's election.

The event will also showcase some of the association's members, including the successes and challenges they have faced in their entrepreneurial journeys. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain useful information on how to advance their own business ventures.

Special interest speakers will also be discussing the Regional Maori Economic Development Strategy for the Bay of Plenty.

I imagine Maori businesses are doing extremely well. Millions given through TOW and only 18% taxes.Govt. funded money this way and that.

Two separate economies are running in NZ now. This has been caused by separitism policies. We are all New Zealanders and should be expected to be dealt with the same processes not different ones.

Says it all really, entrenched separatism, probably not to hard to run a successful business when the start up funds are gifted interest free & then you pay little or no tax.

THE SAD PART

Posted on 21-07-2017 16:36 | By Laurie

about all this is that despite the $millions paid out in Treaty settlements the Maori folk at the bottom of the heap who were supposed to get a better life are no better off than they were 10~20 years ago. Whereas the minority Tribal elite (like Mr Flavell) are clipping the ticket at every turn & prospering at the expense of their own people. Its no wonder he's always grinning like a Cheshire cat although you do wonder how he & his ilk lie straight in bed at night!

What?

So much division in NZ these days..so does NZ have a separate economy for maori and another for everyone else? And we now divide businesses into "Maori Businesses" and "Other Businesses"? Like are we separating businesses by race now? What a joke NZ has become.

I wonder what Devoy thinks of this?

Devoy: I think this is wonderful. However there should not be an Anglo-Saxon business association because that would be racist. And there is no place for racism in NZ.
