Motorists are being warned to drive with care following a truck and car crash on the Tauranga Eastern Link.

Emergency services were called to the crash at about 6.30am.

A police spokesperson says the truck and car crashed in the southbound lane on State Highway 2, about 1km from Domain Road.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a person had to be extricated from the car by firefighters before being put into the back of an ambulance. It's not yet know how seriously injured this person is.

Police are speaking with witnesses to ascertain how the crash happened.
