Discoloured water in Tauranga suburbs

Several Tauranga residents have woken up to discoloured water this morning.

But Tauranga City Council says there's nothing to worry about.

A council spokesperson says for a period of two weeks from Monday, Downer will be undertaking the annual water mains scouring program (flushing) in the following areas: Cambridge Heights, Bethlehem, Judea, Brookfield, Otumoetai, Bellevue, Pillans Point, Bureta and Matua.

'This scouring/flushing may cause a temporary discoloration of your water. If discolouration does occur, please run an outside tap for 5–10 minutes until the water clears.

'This maintenance is done each year to keep the water supply in good condition. The flushing can dislodge minerals that have built up in the pipes.”

He says the council has received six calls about the issue since Monday.

...the volume of water we waste by running the tap for 10 minutes adds to our personal water bill!
