Attendant assaulted in Tauriko robbery

UPDATED 7.29AM: Cigarettes and a cash register have been taken in a robbery at Caltex Service Station in Tauriko.

An attendant at the station was assaulted during the robbery and sustained minor injuries, says a police spokesperson.

Police were alerted to the robbery on State Highway 29 at 6.45am.

"Three men are reported to have broken into the Caltex Service Staion and taken cigarettes and a cash register.

"After leaving the premises they headed south towards the Kaimai Range," says a police spokesperson.

"Their vehicle is described as a silver Mazda sedan."

They say police are at the scene gathering information about what has happened.

SunLive will update this story as soon as more information is available.

This is the second time in two months to petrol station has been targeted.

On May 17, the store was robbed by three people, one armed with a kniife, in a ram-raid early in the morning.
