Road closed for habour protest

Big crowds are expected in Pilot Bay for Saturday’s harbour protest

To help with traffic management and safety, during what is expected to be a large protest in Pilot Bay from 7am tomorrow, Tauranga city council is restricting access along The Mall from Commons Ave to the Adams Ave roundabout from 6am to 5pm on Saturday.

The city council states it has been notified that a large number of iwi and supporters will be gathering at Pilot Bay from 7am.

The event is a continuation of a Ngai Te Rangi-led protest at Treaty Minister Chris Finlayson's refusal to change his mind about handing over Tauranga Moana property and political rights to Hauraki iwi.

Ngai Te Rangi iwi chairman Charlie Tawhaio says the iwi's protest is being supported by people from Auckland and Northland iwi similarly affected by the government approach to overlapping treaty claims.

We have had enough of this nonsense from Maori! Get rid of the Waitangi Tribunal and end the payouts! It's a never ending grab that has to stop! They can't agree amongst themselves, yet expect the rest of us to keep forking out! Enough is enough!!

BIG CROWDS ??

I can't imagine the Mount locals & visitors will be happy about this - why don't these rabble rousers take their grievance to Mr Whinlayson in Wellington instead of p....ing off Mount & Tauranga residents. TCC should not be supporting this by closing off roads & inconveniencing the ratepayers - there won't be many amongst the protestors!!!

Just maybe..........

....this is a reason why we should have "reigned in" , verified and formalised treaty claims,. For this I do at least in part blame the incumbent government for their seemingly unwavering subservient approach toward such claims, ( for their own apparent short term gains), as false as they may be. At some point, this lunacy has to stop....surely?

And what aout the rights

Utter hypocrisy

So their gripe is with the Minister. Therefore there is no reason for the public or Port or shipping to be impeded in any way. By taking the action that they have, the protesters are hypocritical. Why, then, should they expect any sympathy for their cause? Take the grievance and protest to Wellington where it belongs. If anyone gets hurt during this protest then the responsibility lies with the organisers.

where?

Why do these maori think any of them should be entitled to anything that the other 85% of Kiwis can't have? Where in the Treaty does it say maori are any more special, deserving or equal than us?
